Title:
Marines:
Body:
Those of you who made the monthly luncheon witnessed a spontaneous and profound moment.
For those unable to attend, you should know that very soon Dallas will be different place, and not just for those of us Marines who have lived here for a long time. It will soon be without General Mulberry. He graciously and with calm humor told the Coordinating Council first, so we could get it from the source not rumor or innuendo, that the prostate cancer he battled 20 years ago came back with a vengeance and that his medical experts have given him pain killers for the duration, which is estimated to be up to 3 months.
The General advised that after 90 years he was not downhearted. He is "ready to go, but just not on the next bus?" He further told us Jane has also had some medical issues but is in good health and that although he has no e-mail, he does have a phone and would welcome visitors. Just call first.
It is hard to fathom Dallas without General Mulberry. He as served in so many civic organizations, and I mean served-nothing token about his memberships-that many people will find it hard to think of Dallas without him. Now is not the time to enumerate it all, but he has had a tremendous impact on the careers of many, many local Marines and a rare window of time exists for those so inclined to see him.
His phone number is: 214-357-0515. Call him and visit him. Hopefully we can have an organized celebration of what he has meant to the Metroplex before the pain makes such an event impractical.

Addendum:

Marines:
Consider this a Warning Order on the Salute to General Richard E. Mulberry event that will go at 1330 on Friday 16 April 2010 at the Frontiers of Flight Museum located at the Southwest corner of Love Field on Lemmon just South of University.  A detailed announcement will be forwarded shortly.
Please pass the word, preferably via internet, so folks can e-mail their intention to attend to:  usmc.mikemccollum@gmail.com
The e-mail of intention to attend is just that.  We would like to have a rough idea of how many to anticipate as there are several venues within the FOF that could comfortably host this event.  Do not think you can't come cause you didn't let us know.
Also, please spread the word to your friends in other organizations  who have been close to the General over the years advising them to also send a note to the above address if they plan to attend.
